Frequently Asked Questions

Real answers, sourced from the same tolerances, timelines, and policies stated everywhere else on this site — nothing softened for this page.

How do I get a quote for a custom part?

Use Order Direct — upload an STL (up to 50MB), link your file from MakerWorld, Thingiverse, Google Drive, or Printables, or just describe what you need. Every quote is reviewed personally, not automated — you'll get a real price and timeline back as a Square invoice.

How accurate will my part be?

Under 0.2mm on parts under 100mm, geometry dependent. Tight tolerances go where they matter — on your part's critical features — not spread evenly as a flat average.

How long will my order take?

Decorative parts in ready-to-go materials and colors can ship in as few as 3–5 business days. Engineered parts with functional tolerancing typically run 3–5 weeks.

Do you only do FDM, or resin and SLS too?

DuffAM specializes in FDM (fused deposition modeling). If FDM genuinely isn't the right call for your part — tighter tolerance or higher heat resistance than FDM materials can deliver — you'll hear that before you order, not after a failed part. See the FDM vs. Resin vs. SLS guide for the honest breakdown of when each process makes sense.

When do I pay?

Full payment is due before your order enters the print queue — quotes and invoices aren't a commitment until then, so you can change or cancel at no cost before that point. See the Cancellation & Deposit Policy for the full terms.

What materials can you print in?

Everyday filaments like PLA through engineered materials — ASA, ASA-CF, PC-ABS, PPS-CF, and a range of Nylon options. PCTG-CF is the go-to for parts that need to survive real use — see the full material comparison guide for specifics on each.

Will my part hold up outdoors, or in direct sun?

Depends on the material and how much direct sun exposure it'll see — PCTG-CF has real limits under continuous full sun that ASA/ASA-CF handles better. Read “PCTG-CF Outside” for the honest range, or tell us the application at quote time and we'll steer you to the right material upfront.

What carrier do you ship with, and how much does it cost?

USPS, UPS, or FedEx — whichever gives the best price and fit for your order. For Store items, cost is confirmed at checkout; for custom Order Direct orders, it's calculated for your part's actual weight and size and included on your invoice. See the Shipping Policy.

Do you ship internationally?

Not at this time — DuffAM ships within the United States only.

My package arrived damaged, or shows delivered but I never got it — what do I do?

Contact us within 7 days with your order number (and photos for damage claims) — see the Shipping Policy. This is different from a print defect, which falls under the Return & Warranty Policy instead.

What happens if my part comes out wrong?

Replacement is always the first move, not a refund. If it's a genuine fabrication defect, we'll replace it — no argument. Reach out within 14 days of delivery with photos or a short video of the issue. Full details on the Return & Warranty Policy.

What if my part breaks because I used it beyond what it was built for?

That's not covered as a defect, but it's usually a sign the original material or design wasn't the right fit — in that case, we'll offer a discounted replacement in a more suitable material or design. See the full Return & Warranty Policy.

Can Store items be returned?

Yes, within 14 days of delivery, if the item arrived damaged or defective and is unused, unmodified, and in its original condition. See the Return & Warranty Policy for the full terms.

Do you keep or reuse the files I send you?

No — you keep ownership of any design you send. It's used only to produce your order; it isn't sold, shared with other customers, or claimed as DuffAM's. See the Design & File Ownership policy.

What can't you print?

Firearms and firearm components, export-controlled or defense-related items, copyrighted or trademarked designs you don't have rights to, anything illegal to manufacture or ship, and medical or safety-critical devices without prior written agreement. See the Prohibited & Restricted Items Policy for the full list — ask before you order if you're not sure.

Still have a question?

Not sure your part fits any of this? Ask before you order — it's faster and cheaper than guessing.
